.Timeless Treasures

THOUGHT FOR THE MONTH: Care for others because God cares for you!

We want to thank Jerry Gasvoda for arranging our tour to the Kuiper Museum - it was enjoyed by everyone that attended.

We have no planned activities for the month of May because we have two events in June.

SATURDAY. JUNE 5th , We will take a tour of the Thornton Quarry in Thornton Ii. We will carpool from the church. We must leave the church by 8:00 a.m. to catch the tour bus at 9:00 a.m. We will eat lunch there at the church after the tour.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 23rd, We will take a trip to Historic downtown Crown Point to shop, visit the old Court House and have lunch. We will carpool from the church.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 28th, We will carpool from the church to Taltree Arboretum & Gardens in Valparaiso. There is a $5.00 entrance fee - we will be collecting that the end of June. Please plan to wear walking shoes for the guided walk. We will take our own picnic lunch.

We again encourage you to visit our friends that can no longer come to church. We want them to know the Immanuel family has NOT forgotten them.

Tabea Women's Guild

The Tabea Women's Guild met on April 8th. We enjoyed a great spring meeting with yellow flowers and decorations to brighten up the luncheon given by the Life Issue Circle. Sandwiches, salads and desserts were served.

Our next meeting will be on May 13 with the Stewardship Circle hosting the luncheon. Our Honorary Members with 25 years or more will be celebrated at the meeting.

You are invited to the Church Women United Friendship Day to be held on May 7 at the First Presbyterian Church in Hammond. Registration will begin at 9:00 a.m. with a continental breakfast at 9:30 a.m., followed by the worship service. More information about this event is on the bulletin board for your viewing.

Ladies of Immanuel: The Tabea Women's Guild is missing you. Come out and enjoy the fellowship and fun. We guarantee a good time for all and with you present that will mean so much more. So come join us and
see what we are all about.

C.A.F.E.

Group C.A.F.E. is off to a terrific start. Mixing fun, food, fellowship and adding a mission. Two sell-out events were hosted thus far this year.

The much anticipated Bunco-Popcorn Poker party was held on Saturday evening, February 20th. A total of 45 tickets were sold for this event. For a small charge of $5.00, an evening of fun, fellowship and don't forget the food, was enjoyed. The food pantry, our mission for the evening, also enjoyed success in the collection of $25.00 and over 55 pounds of food donations. Overall bunco winner for the evening was Mary Johnson, who came in just ahead of the runner up, Pastor Dan! A big THANK YOU to the event organizers, Mike and Nancy Roy, Cheryl Austin and Jeanne Kapciak. The Committee also appreciated the on-loan card tables from member of the congregation and the extra hands at the end of the evening to help clean up.

The second event hosted by Group C.A.F.E. was well received also. The Progressive Dinner, International style, was sold out, with a total of 50 tickets sold. Included in this total were five guests that joined us for the evening. This event was organized by Barb and Bill Haizlip and Gary and Sharon Shackleton, all under the direction of Barb Haizlip. The committee needed more hands to serve the dinner and we are extremely grateful to many of you who answered our "extra help needed" call. Five countries were represented in each of the courses served. Workers for each country were identified by the representative aprons that were hand crafted by Melissa Valois. Thank you Melissa! Thanks, also, to Sue Fay for her assistance in set-up and decorating and to Nelda Heller for providing the tablecloths. The servers for the evening included: Mexico - Barb Haizlip and Sharon Shackleton; Greece - Ginger Graves and Melissa Valois; Italy - Sue Fay and Nelda Heller; China - Barb Shutko; and USA - Bill Haizlip and Gary Shackleton. The evening concluded with awarding the Grand Prize trivia winner, Sue Fay, with a beautiful gift basket filled with international food products to match the evening's theme, valued at $50. Congratulations to Sue Fay and a big Thank You to Barb Haizlip's friend, Sandi Sears, who donated the gift basket. Many of our servers, along with Shirley Kowalisyn and several volunteers, graciously assisted with the clean-up. The committee is grateful to all the helping hands, as well as those donating the use of card tables and the generous support to the event's mission. A total of $75 was collected for the event's selected mission, Share Your Soles.

Church Women United

Thanks are due again for the great job we did in supplying the baby nighties. Immanuel donated 27 of the 50 needed, plus cash to ship them. We are thankful for the many who responded. Other churches and people made up the remainder to accomplish our pledge of 50. They will be shipped on or about May 1st.

Also don't forget May Friendship Day at First Presbyterian Church of Hammond, 6021 Hohman Avenue, on Friday, May 7, 2010. Registration is at 9:00 a.m. with a continental breakfast 9:30-10:30 a.m. followed by worship services. There is a charge of $5.00. All are welcome. See the poster on the board.
